WIMBLEDON COUNTY SCHOOL
STAFF AND OLD GIRLS' ASSOCIATION

PUBLICATIONS

OUR MAGAZINE “PHOENIX”, was produced by Rosemary Dolman (nee Farley, 1962) twice a year for fourteen years. Final issue was in Autumn 2007 issue.

“K. FRANCES WADE” published in 1995. Miss Wade was a remarkable woman. She was Headmistress from 1940-1964 and was devastated by the demise five years later of the wonderful school which developed under her care.

She died in March 1994 and her family donated her own archive material to us, making up for the loss of some of our written school records. Pam Vincent (nee Wolff 1949) used this material as the basis for "K. Frances Wade", an absorbing and moving story. Now, alas, all sold out, but perhaps a friend will lend you hers to read.

“TALKING HEAD ” Miss Wade kept a record of all her end of term talks – plus a few others. In June 2006 we published Ann Harrison’s selection from these talks. Members of all ages have found this particularly moving and inspiring and those who knew her realise now how much of her wisdom and humanity have influenced them throughout their lives. Copies are available. CONTACT US for details – see Home Page.

“ACTING HEAD”, We have the scripts of Staff plays performed for our entertainment on School birthdays between 1949 and 1964.

This booklet is our final publication, issued to members in March 2008. The scripts remind us of the fun we all had on School birthdays and of the dedication and creativity of our Staff. The scripts were written mainly by Miss Wade herself.

Miss Doswell remembers rehearsing in the Head’s office.

We still have copies. CONTACT US for details – see Home Page.

“A JEWEL IN SURREY'S CROWN”, published in 1997, is a beautifully written history of the school. Pam Vincent has included several photographs from the archive collection. The cover picture is designed by Lesley Garbutt (nee Quarmby 1959) who is a professional botanical artist.
