In 1969, our school became part of the comprehensive school system and effectively died. Remaining pupils went to Ricards Lodge with those of Pelham Girls Secondary School. The Old Girls’ Association lost heart and ceased its activities soon after this merger.
24 years later, in 1993, a new Old Girls Association started and achieved some remarkable successes. In bringing our old school back to life for fourteen amazing years, Wimbledon County School Staff and Old Girls’ Association did justice to a great school, and made some slight amends for its loss. 500 of us met for the last time in 2007 to celebrate the Centenary year of Wimbledon County School. It was a great occasion. See REUNIONS page. We have put a great many old friends in touch with each other and now that there are no new school leavers to add to our numbers, we decided to go out with a bang rather than a whimper.
WCS SOGA now has a new project – a Newsletter by Email – to keep members in contact with each other. See, WE CANNOT GO ON FOR EVER on the WCS SOGA page.
Around 2,000 names are in our records, including some Staff members. If you are a bona fide Old Girl or member of Staff, you can get more details. See CONTACT US at annh56@sky.com
